After a groundbreaking ceremony in February 2023 and a grand opening in March 2024, the greenhouse now operates at full capacity, as seen in recent satellite images.

High-resolution satellite images reveal a 260-hectare site, once an air force base, now housing over 1,000 greenhouses. Equipped with modern soil cultivation and hydroponic systems, the farm aims to boost vegetable production for Pyongyang. Thermal infrared analysis indicates efficient heating, while nighttime light intensity images capture the farm illuminated even at 1:30 a.m.
Challenges and Controversies
Despite its technological marvels, the farm’s heavy electricity consumption raises concerns about North Korea’s priorities. With chronic food shortages persisting, dedicating resources to vegetable production seems extravagant. The lack of clarity on vegetable distribution further fuels skepticism about the project’s benefits for ordinary citizens.
