US Imposes New Sanctions on Iran for Missile and Drone Parts Purchase
The US Treasury announced on Tuesday the imposition of new sanctions on individuals and entities from Iran, China, and Hong Kong for allegedly facilitating the purchase of missile and drone parts for Tehran. According to the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), 5 persons and 7 entities are targeted for their role in providing items to the Ministry of Defense and Support of the Iranian Armed Forces (MODAFL).
The statement from the US Treasury Department claims that the sanctioned individuals and entities supplied key components like accelerometers and gyroscopes to enhance Iran’s ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programs. This action is part of the US government’s efforts to curb Iran’s military capabilities.
As tensions between the US and Iran continue, Washington asserts that diplomatic channels are the best way to address concerns regarding Iran’s compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The latest sanctions are seen as a response to Iran’s alleged pursuits of advanced military technology.
