Authorities in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture, apprehended a 27-year-old man suspected of murdering his grandparents and aunt in Kikugawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Koichi Katayama, a former Self-Defense Force member, allegedly stabbed his grandfather, grandmother, and aunt at their home. He was placed on a nationwide wanted list before being captured at a lodging facility with a self-inflicted stab wound in his chest.
Despite the injury not being life-threatening, Katayama confessed to the killings. The tragic incident unfolded when a woman called police reporting a violent man at the victims’ residence, where they discovered the three deceased with stab wounds. The victims lived with another family member, who was not present at the time of the attack. The suspect, who was visiting the family, does not reside in the house.
This shocking case of family violence has left the community in disbelief and mourning. Investigations continue as authorities piece together the events leading to this horrific tragedy.
