Lula and Biden discuss Venezuelan elections and put pressure on Maduro
During a telephone conversation, Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil and Joseph Biden of the United States discussed the Venezuelan crisis. Lula emphasized the importance of releasing the minutes of each voting station, which was supported by Biden. Both leaders expressed concern about the transparency of the electoral process in Venezuela.
Lula’s envoy, Celso Amorim, has been monitoring the situation in Venezuela and meeting with key figures. While doubts about the fairness of the elections persist, the Brazilian government is urging the publication of detailed voting results for credibility and legitimacy.
The White House also called for transparency in the electoral process and emphasized the need for accurate results to reflect the will of the Venezuelan people. Lula and Biden agreed that the outcome of the elections is critical for democracy in the region and pledged to work together on this issue.
The conversation also touched on upcoming international events, including the G20 Summit and a meeting of democratic nations against extremism. Lula commended Biden for his decision not to seek reelection and wished success for the democratic process in the US. The partnership between Brazil and the US remains strong as they collaborate on addressing the Venezuelan crisis.
