Young people in Lagos State are calling on traditional rulers in Yoruba land to support the $20bn Dangote oil refinery, which is located in their community. They praised Bola Tinubu for approving the sale of crude oil to the refinery and threatened to protest if the government didn’t address issues raised by a regulatory official.
The youths, represented by groups like the Lagos Advocacy Group and Yoruba Youth Advocacy Forum, emphasized the importance of the refinery to creating jobs for over 10,000 young people. They urged traditional rulers to ensure the success of the project and demanded transparency in government dealings with the refinery.
Additionally, they called for collaborative agreements with independent marketers to stabilize fuel prices and ensure wider market access for Dangote’s products. The Federal Government’s recent decision to allocate 450,000 barrels of crude for domestic use in naira was seen as a positive step following controversy surrounding the refinery.
The groups stressed the need for a supportive regulatory framework to boost local refining initiatives and restore the government’s integrity in the eyes of investors.
