The Japanese government is set to issue a corrective order to Toyota Motor for violations in its vehicle certification procedures. Transport ministry officials will hand over the order to Toyota CEO Koji Sato in a meeting at the ministry. This marks the first corrective order issued to Toyota, as new irregularities have been discovered.
Earlier this month, Toyota announced that no new cases of wrongdoing had been found beyond the ones reported last month. The investigation revealed that Toyota and four other vehicle makers had submitted flawed or manipulated data during certification applications.
Toyota’s violations involve several production models, including the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross, as well as discontinued versions of other models. The industry-wide checks on certification practices were initiated after a safety test scandal at Toyota’s Daihatsu compact car unit.
