US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin believes that Israel and Lebanon have the opportunity to avoid a full-scale war through diplomacy.
Austin emphasized the importance of diplomacy in preventing war, stating, “I do not think that war is inevitable. I think there is always room and opportunity for diplomacy.”
If Israel were to be attacked, Austin reassured that the US would help defend it, as they have done in the past.
The tension between Israel and Lebanon escalated after the Israeli army claimed that Hezbollah was responsible for a fatal rocket strike, which was denied by the Lebanese movement.
The ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters along the border has raised concerns, especially following Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip last year.
