Lebanese Hezbollah Leader Fouad Shukr Assassinated in Israeli Airstrike
Hezbollah has confirmed the assassination of senior official Fouad Shukr in an Israeli military strike in Beirut. The strike targeted a building in Haret Hreik, resulting in the deaths of Lebanese civilians and injuries. Shukr’s fate was initially unknown but was later confirmed by Lebanese news outlet Al-Manar.
Hezbollah praised Shukr’s commitment to liberation and announced their leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, would speak at his funeral. Shukr, also known as Hajj Mohsen, was a key figure in the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon and played a significant role in several battles against Israeli invasion. He was pursued by the US for alleged involvement in the 1983 Beirut Barracks Bombings.
Shukr’s legacy includes managing external affairs, mentoring fighters in Bosnia, and overseeing Hezbollah’s naval and air forces. He later served as a central assistant to Nasrallah and the Shura Council.
