Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas’ political bureau, was tragically assassinated in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran. He had been in Iran for President Masoud Pezeshkian’s inauguration. Both Hamas and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are investigating the incident.
Haniyeh’s political journey was marked by multiple arrests, exile, and leadership roles in Palestinian politics. He led the Change and Reform List to victory in the 2006 elections, becoming the head of the Palestinian government. Elected as head of Hamas’ political bureau in 2017, Haniyeh’s legacy continues to inspire.
