Iran Urges UN Security Council Action Against Israeli Attacks
Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council to address recent Israeli attacks in Tehran and Beirut, labeling them as cowardly terrorist acts. The ambassador to the UN, Amir-Saeed Iravani, stated that the regime’s actions violate international law and must face sanctions to prevent further violations.
The letter condemned the targeting of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and civilian infrastructure in Beirut, conveying a lack of commitment to peace and stability in the region. The Iranian ambassador also highlighted the US’s role in the attacks as Israel’s strategic ally.
Emphasizing the need for immediate action, the letter called on the Security Council to condemn the aggressions and terrorist attacks by Israel and uphold international law. Iran reiterated its right to self-defense under the UN Charter and expressed its commitment to peace and stability in the region.
An emergency meeting of the Security Council has been scheduled, supported by key member states, amid concerns over the escalating conflict in the region. UN Chief Antonio Guterres has urged all parties to work toward de-escalation for long-term peace and stability.
