Imran Khan reiterates call for peaceful protests despite violence
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan stood firm in his stance on Monday, reiterating that he had called for peaceful protests outside the military’s General Headquarters in case of his arrest on May 9. He emphasized that his party, PTI, was not involved in the violent incidents that occurred, which he deemed as “pre-planned”.
During a media briefing, Khan explained that he had issued directions to hold peaceful protests inside cantonments and outside GHQ as a precaution after facing assassination attempts. The accountability court further extended his remand in the Toshakhana case for 10 days, setting the next hearing for Aug 10.
While addressing accusations of PTI’s involvement in violent protests, Khan asserted that CCTV footage could have identified the troublemakers, yet no footage had been presented to date. He claimed that the footage would prove PTI’s innocence and vowed to pursue its production in court.
Additionally, Khan criticized the government for targeting social media activists, accusing them of fabricating rifts between PTI and the military to maintain power. He commended Jamaat-i-Islami for protesting against inflation and announced PTI’s plan for a show of strength on August 5 in Swabi if permission for a jalsa in Islamabad was denied.
