Access to Schengen Area
Holders of Hungary’s national card can travel within the Schengen area for up to 90 days without a Schengen visa, but entry can be refused by other Schengen states on security grounds. While Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine, applicants for Schengen visas are evaluated individually, with a significant number gaining approval.
Hungary’s Foreign Minister dismisses criticisms, stating that national cards are obtained through legal means and do not permit work in other EU countries. This unique visa approach by Hungary adds a layer of complexity to travel within the Schengen area.
