Project 2025, a conservative policymaking group, has faced criticism from Democrats for its hard-right proposals and has become a campaign liability for Republican candidate Donald Trump. The director of the project, Paul Dans, has stepped down amidst the controversy.
Despite Trump’s campaign trying to distance itself from the group, many of his allies are deeply involved in Project 2025. The Heritage Foundation, which organizes the project, confirmed Dans’ departure without providing a reason.
While Trump’s co-campaign managers have expressed a desire for the demise of Project 2025, the group’s work continues. Democrats see the project as a symbol of a potential hard-right political shift under a Trump presidency.
Project 2025 consists of detailed policy proposals that Trump may adopt if elected, including curbing the Justice Department’s independence and eliminating the Department of Education. Despite the criticism, the Heritage Foundation president, Kevin Roberts, stated that the project’s work will proceed.
