EU aims for Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal in 80 chars

European Council President Charles Michel is intensifying efforts to broker a lasting peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to a report by Politico. Michel recently held bilateral meetings with the leaders of both countries at the European Political Community summit in the UK.

Despite previous tensions and accusations from both sides, Michel has urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to return to the negotiation table and make progress on key issues like border delimitation to finalize a peace agreement. However, frustrations have mounted in Brussels over delays and diplomatic standstills.

Michel’s outreach comes after Azerbaijan’s military offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh, sparking renewed tensions and accusations between the two nations. The EU Council has approved an aid package of 10 million euros for the Armenian Armed Forces, further fueling tensions.

While both sides have yet to meet directly, Michel remains committed to facilitating a peace agreement. The EU is pushing for a diplomatic solution to prevent further escalation of conflict in the region.
