Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, warned against falling into the trap of those with malicious intentions under the guise of fighting for the people’s interests. In a Special State Broadcast titled ‘Need to uphold peace during the August 1 planned nationwide protest’, he urged residents to avoid violence.
Oyebanji emphasized the importance of maintaining peace to prevent a repeat of the destructive events of the 2020 EndSARS protests. He assured citizens that security agencies would ensure the protection of lives and property during any planned protests in Ekiti.
The governor implored parents, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to dissuade youths from participating in violent acts, emphasizing the need for peaceful demonstrations. He highlighted the economic repercussions of violence, citing the damage caused during the previous protests.
Oyebanji stressed the need for peaceful expression of views, without infringing on the rights of others. He urged citizens to support ongoing efforts to revive the economy and avoid setbacks caused by destructive actions.
