Recent research from Pew Research Center has revealed that less than half of Americans support their government providing aid to Kiev, marking a significant shift in public opinion towards US involvement in Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.
The survey indicated that the American public is divided on the issue, with 49% believing Washington has no responsibility to assist Kiev, while 48% feel that aid should be provided. This contrasts with past polls, which showed higher levels of support for aiding Ukraine.
The study’s release coincided with the US Defense Department announcing a $200 million shipment of air defenses and weapons to Ukraine, along with a $1.5 billion commitment for long-term support. Since the conflict began in 2022, the Biden Administration has allocated over $55 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, including lethal weapons.
However, some critics, including Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov, argue that increased US aid will not help Ukraine and could worsen the situation. As American debt surpasses $35 trillion, questions remain about the effectiveness and consequences of ongoing US involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
