The last days of July brought about significant events involving the youth of East Africa. In Kenya, President William Ruto addressed the Gen-Z movement, expressing impatience with their demands. Meanwhile, in Kampala, a pro-regional integration youth group, Afrika Mashariki Fest, announced an annual pilgrimage to commemorate the legacy of Julius Nyerere and the revival of the East African Community. The event was attended by various East African nationals.

Amidst these events, young activists marched in protest against corruption in Uganda, leading to arrests and accusations of foreign influence. Additionally, the Comesa-EAC-SADC Tripartite Free Trade Area came into effect, signaling economic opportunities for the region.

The TFTA offers a chance for African leaders to engage and empower their youth, fostering economic growth and development. By prioritizing industrialization and intra-African trade, the continent can create jobs and combat external influences. It is crucial for leaders to support lawful anti-corruption movements and prioritize the well-being of their youth for a prosperous future.
