Inflation Sit-In: Positive Negotiations between Government and JI
As the Jamat-e-Islami (JI) sit-in against inflation and high electricity bills enters its sixth day in Rawalpindi, positive negotiations were held between the government and the party. The government delegation, including Amir Muqam and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, stated that their demands align with JI’s goal of prosperity in the country.
Both sides agreed to bring their technical teams to the table for further discussions, aiming for a fruitful outcome. The government emphasized its efforts to provide relief, such as 200 units of free electricity announced by the Prime Minister.
Despite the progress in negotiations, JI leader Liaquat Baloch reiterated their commitment to the sit-in until their demands, including reduced electricity bills, tax abolishment on essential items, and relief for various sectors, are met. The government’s handling of the economy was criticized, warning of escalating protests if concrete steps are not taken.
Overall, both parties are hopeful for a positive resolution soon, with ongoing talks and commitments for further discussions.
