Controversy Surrounding the Appointment of Broadcasting and Communications Commission Chairperson
Amid President Yoon Suk-yeol’s forceful appointment of Lee Jin-suk as the Broadcasting and Communications Commission Chairperson, the opposition parties and media organizations jointly demanded her resignation.
During a party meeting, Park Chan-dae, the acting president of the Democratic Party, criticized the appointment, stating that appointing someone under investigation as the commission chairperson is insulting to the people.
Various media and civic groups also criticized the appointment, highlighting Lee Jin-suk’s controversial past and calling for her immediate resignation.
The ruling party and opposition members have filed complaints against Lee Jin-suk for alleged misconduct, bribery, and violation of laws.
Plans are underway to impeach Lee Jin-suk, with the ruling party arguing that the current composition of the Broadcasting Commission violates legal standards.
