The Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, strongly condemned the recent indiscriminate attacks in El Fasher, North Darfur, where at least 97 civilians were killed or injured. She called on all parties to stop the fighting and protect civilians, highlighting the ongoing displacement crisis in Sudan with millions affected by conflict since last year.
Meanwhile, in South Sudan, the UN and humanitarian partners are preparing for severe flooding, expected to be the worst in 60 years. They aim to assist 2.4 million out of 3.3 million people impacted by the floods, as well as provide assistance to those fleeing conflict in Sudan. However, more funding is urgently needed for the humanitarian response, as the current appeal is significantly underfunded.
Violence against aid workers in South Sudan is also a concern, with nearly three dozen cases reported last month. Safe and unimpeded access is crucial to reach those in need. Both Sudan and South Sudan require increased support to address the humanitarian crises they are facing.
