Roberto Linguanotto, the ‘father of tiramisu’, accidentally created the famous dessert with the wife of the restaurant owner he worked for.
Roberto ‘Loli’ Linguanotto, the Italian pastry chef known as the ‘father of tiramisu’, passed away at 81. He created the iconic dessert in the early 1970s at Alle Beccherie in Treviso, Italy.
Linguanotto and Alba di Pillo-Campeol, wife of the restaurant owner, are credited with perfecting the tiramisu recipe almost accidentally. The dessert was originally called ‘Tirame Sù’ and consisted of six simple ingredients.
The tiramisu recipe was eventually published in 1983, leading to the dessert’s global popularity. Linguanotto’s contribution to the culinary world was highlighted by the governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia.
