Russia Seizes Another Village in Eastern Ukraine

Russia announced on Monday that its forces had taken control of the village of Vovche in eastern Ukraine, marking another advancement in the ongoing conflict. Situated just 16 kilometers northwest of Avdiivka, a city captured by Russia earlier this year, Vovche is now under Moscow’s control.

The Russian defense ministry stated that its army units had “liberated the village of Vovche” in the Donetsk region and strengthened their tactical position. This development follows the capture of Progres and Yevgenivka, two nearby villages, by Russian troops.

In June, Ukrainian authorities advised the remaining residents of Vovche to evacuate due to Russian air strikes. With only seven people left in the village out of a pre-conflict population of around 100, the situation remains dire.

Both sides continue to engage in combat, with neither able to secure a decisive victory. The conflict, which began over two years ago when Russia launched its offensive, has resulted in significant casualties for both Moscow and Kyiv.
