Electric vehicles have been touted as the cars of the future due to their environmental benefits and cost-effectiveness. Despite this, the import of electric vehicles in Bosnia and Herzegovina has seen a decline in the first half of the year, with only 106 imported compared to 125 in the same period last year. In contrast, hybrid vehicles have seen a surge in imports by over 70 percent.
The delay in subsidies for electric vehicles adoption may be a contributing factor to this decline, according to Armin Hodzic, director of the energy sector at the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of BiH. Additionally, the influx of affordable Chinese electric cars in the European market and the reduction of subsidies for electric cars in the EU have also led to a shift towards hybrid vehicles.
The price of lithium, a key component in electric vehicles, is also dropping, making them more accessible. Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken steps to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles by reducing import duties, making them a more attractive option for consumers.
