In response to recent allegations of parliamentarians receiving free electricity, the power division in Islamabad clarified that no such facility is being provided to lawmakers or any government institution.
Addressing a privilege motion submitted by MNAs, the division stated that parliamentarians pay rent for their accommodations at Parliament Lodges and cover their electricity and gas bills.
Reports circulating in various media outlets claiming free electricity for lawmakers prompted MNAs to meet with NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who assured them of taking action on the issue during the upcoming parliamentary session starting on July 30.
The parliamentarians emphasized their financial responsibilities, refuting claims of receiving any special treatment in terms of utilities.
With Speaker Sadiq’s commitment to address the matter, the issue of alleged free electricity for parliamentarians is expected to be clarified and resolved.
