Poll: Florida voters sharply divided on abortion and Trump

Florida voters overwhelmingly support an abortion rights amendment while also favoring former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a new poll from the University of North Florida. 69% of respondents would vote yes on the amendment, showing strong support for limiting government interference with abortion. Trump received 49% support in the poll, while Harris had 42%, indicating a significant lead for the former president in his home state.

UNF PORL faculty director Michael Binder noted that Harris’ entry into the race has energized her supporters but may not be enough to secure an easy win for her in Florida. The poll also showed Sen. Rick Scott slightly ahead of former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in the upcoming Senate election, with Scott at 47% and Mucarsel-Powell at 43%. Binder highlighted the potential for another close race for Scott, who has a history of winning narrow statewide races in Florida.

Overall, the poll results reveal shifting dynamics in Florida politics leading up to the upcoming election, with both the abortion rights amendment and the Senate race poised to be closely contested.
