Opposition claims evidence showing their candidate beat Maduro

Amid widespread demonstrations across Venezuela, opposition candidate Edmundo González announced that his campaign has evidence to prove his victory in the disputed election, where electoral authorities declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner. With over 70% of tally sheets showing González leading by a large margin, both he and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado called for calm and invited supporters to peacefully celebrate the results.

Despite the National Electoral Council officially declaring Maduro the winner, protests remained mostly peaceful in the capital, Caracas, with some clashes reported.
