Masoud Pezeshkian has been officially inaugurated as the new president of Iran, marking a significant transition of power in the country. The oath-taking ceremony held at the parliament in Tehran followed the endorsement of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in accordance with the Constitution.
Pezeshkian, a seasoned reformist lawmaker and cardiac surgeon, emerged victorious in a closely contested presidential runoff election against conservative candidate Saeed Jalili. In his inaugural address, he emphasized his government’s commitment to achieving fair and sustainable progress, improving the economy, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
The new president emphasized the importance of Iran’s role in global affairs and regional stability, advocating for stronger diplomatic ties with neighboring countries. He also condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, calling for an end to the occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.
As Pezeshkian prepares to form his government, experts anticipate challenges in gaining approval from the conservative-dominated parliament. With Mohammad Reza Aref as his first vice president, the president aims to establish a government of national unity that prioritizes the well-being of Iranians and promotes peace in the region.
