Over 80 foreign officials, including heads of state, attended the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president, Pezeshkian. The event was covered by more than 600 Iranian and foreign journalists. Pezeshkian took his oath of office in front of lawmakers and foreign guests, delivering his inaugural speech.
Receiving his validation edict from Ayatollah Khamenei, Pezeshkian officially became the ninth president of Iran. He has two weeks to present his plans and introduce his ministers to the parliament, which will then discuss and hold a final vote of confidence.
Pezeshkian, elected in the March parliamentary elections, became a presidential candidate after the tragic death of President Raisi. Winning the runoff election with 53.66% of the votes, Pezeshkian’s new administration, the 14th after the Islamic Revolution, will serve for four years.
