The Israel Defense Forces revealed the demise of Fuad Shukr, the Hezbollah commander responsible for a drone attack that killed 12 children and teenagers. Shukr, also known as Hajj Mohsin, had been with Hezbollah since 1985 and was wanted by the U.S. government for his ties to the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing.
Shukr served as a key advisor to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and was eliminated in an IDF strike in southern Beirut. The IDF confirmed the news in a press release, labeling Shukr as the “most senior military commander” of Hezbollah. Hezbollah has yet to confirm his death.
Shukr was credited with overseeing Hezbollah’s advanced weaponry, and the recent drone strike in Majdal Shams intensified tensions. The IDF retaliated by launching missiles towards Lebanon, prompting concerns of a broader conflict in the region.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant communicated with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin regarding the unfolding situation. The objective was to convey a strong message without escalating into a larger conflict.
