An Israeli strike targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, on Tuesday, in response to an attack on the Golan Heights blamed on Hezbollah. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang and seeing smoke rise from the area near Hezbollah’s Shura Council headquarters in Haret Hreik. The Israeli military confirmed it had targeted the Hezbollah commander responsible for the Golan Heights attack, which killed 12 people.
Despite the strike, the fate of the Hezbollah commander remains unclear. Lebanon’s state news agency reported the attack near Hezbollah’s Shura Council in the Haret Hreik neighborhood. Beirut was already tense in anticipation of Israeli retaliation for the Golan Heights attack, which targeted a Druze village and resulted in the deaths of several children.
