The Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, a community-based NGO in Borno, successfully deradicalised 90 women and girls involved in insurgency in the state. At the third batch graduation ceremony held in Maiduguri, the Executive Director, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, highlighted the foundation’s programme called “Community Based Deradicalisation of Women and Girls in Borno,” which registered 800 women involved in insurgency.
Allamin commended the Borno Government for the “Borno Model” that facilitates repentant insurgents to surrender. The deradicalised women played a crucial role in convincing about 190 of their relatives to surrender, showing the impact of the foundation’s efforts. There’s still much work to be done, and Allamin emphasized the need for collaboration with the state government and stakeholders to spread the message of peace and reconciliation across the state.
Speakers at the event, including the Borno Commissioner of Women Affairs, the Theatre Commander of Operation Haidin Kai, and the Borno Government’s Security Adviser, praised the foundation’s success and pledged continued support. Fati Musa, one of the deradicalised women, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to turn their lives around.
