USAID Continues Aid Distribution in Yemen Despite Challenges
Despite facing challenges from Houthi militias who have increased their campaign of arrests against staff from UN agencies and international organizations, USAID remains committed to distributing aid to Yemen. The agency has provided assistance to over 1.3 million Yemenis, addressing the high levels of food insecurity in the country.
Through its partners, USAID continues to provide emergency food assistance, including US-sourced commodities and cash vouchers for local markets. Aid has been distributed to host community families, internally displaced families, and households in various governorates, both in government-controlled and Houthi-controlled areas.
USAID partners are also providing multipurpose cash assistance to cover other costs, such as shelter and hygiene items, to support food insecurity and improve household purchasing power. Despite challenges in Houthi-controlled areas, aid distribution remains crucial to supporting vulnerable households across Yemen.
However, the agency highlights the deteriorating health situation in Yemen, attributing it to nearly a decade of conflict leading to devastating outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, especially among children. USAID emphasizes the urgent need for continued aid and support to address the health and humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
