ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 29. Exciting news in the energy sector as Turkmenistan and Pakistan have agreed to move forward with negotiations on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. This development was revealed by Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, during a recent government meeting in Turkmenistan.
The agreement to initiate negotiations came after a successful visit by a Turkmen delegation to Pakistan the previous week. Discussions during the visit focused on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, with a particular emphasis on energy projects.
In addition to the TAPI gas pipeline, talks also included plans for power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
Notably, Turkmenistan’s Turkmengaz State Concern has completed a 214-kilometer section of the gas pipeline within Turkmenistan’s borders, positioning the project for operational readiness.
The TAPI gas pipeline, once operational, is projected to transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually along an 1800-kilometer route from Turkmenistan’s Galkynysh gas field to the Indian city of Fazilka near the border with Pakistan.
