Pir Zaheerul Hasan Shah, the vice-emir of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), has been booked in a terrorism case for inciting violence against the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The TLP had organized gatherings against a recent Supreme Court’s judgement, resulting in Shah’s remarks against the CJP.
Shah, along with 1,400-1,500 unnamed suspects, was booked under terrorism and other criminal charges. Government officials strongly condemned the remarks, promising strict action against those spreading lies.
In a joint press conference, ministers condemned the incitement of violence, stating it was driven by political motives. They emphasized the need to uphold the rule of law and prevent groups from issuing death threats in the name of religion.
Separately, clerics and the government agreed to curb religious intolerance and prevent individuals from taking the law into their own hands. The issuance of fatwas against the CJP was strongly condemned by both parties.
Overall, the government is determined to uphold the Constitution and ensure justice prevails in the country, condemning any form of incitement and violence in the name of religion or politics.
