Telecom fiber optic networks sabotaged on 07/29/2024.

France faces a new wave of sabotage targeting telecommunications operators, police revealed. Fiber optic networks of various operators were vandalized in six regions of the country, though Paris, the current host city of the Olympics, was untouched.

Details of the Vandalism

French telecom giants SFR and Bouygues Telecom fell victim to the sabotage, with cut cables reported in southern France and near Luxembourg and Paris. Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Marina Ferrari denounced the vandalism and confirmed efforts to restore services with the Defense Electronic Communications Center.

Approximately 11,000 customers, mainly from SFR and Free, were affected by the acts, according to France’s telecom regulator ARCEP. Investigations are underway following Friday’s vandalism on the high-speed rail network.
