Second round of government and JI talks postponed

Government Fails to Hold Second Round of Talks with Jamaat-e-Islami

The government committee, tasked with negotiating with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), did not conduct the scheduled second round of talks on Monday for undisclosed reasons, leaving the JI leader frustrated. The first round of negotiations took place on July 28, where JI presented its demands. The ongoing JI sit-in, lasting four days, is demanding the acceptance of these demands, particularly regarding excessive electricity bills.

JI Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman addressed the participants, highlighting the burden of electricity bills on the people and the need for accountability in the energy sector. He also demanded an end to perks enjoyed by government officials. The JI chief criticized the Punjab government for obstructing their women workers from joining the sit-in and called for transparent agreements with Independent Power Producers.

Overall, JI’s protest reflects growing concerns about economic hardships faced by the salaried class and the impact of government policies on the common citizens.
