Mandur, Bidadi Reject Bengaluru’s Garbage Facility

Establishing an integrated solid waste management system in Bengaluru faces a land availability challenge, hindering Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s project. Two out of four proposed locations have been rejected by legislators due to anticipated public opposition.

The identified sites included properties in Doddaballapur, Mandur, Bidadi, and Gollahalli. Mandur residents have previously protested against waste dumping, leading to piles of trash on city streets.

Legislators like Manjula Limbavali and KJ George have opposed bringing waste to Mandur and Bidadi, respectively. The government is concerned that additional waste in Bidadi could impact the new waste-to-energy plant. Alternative locations are being sought for waste management facilities.

Efforts are underway to establish an integrated waste management system with biogas and waste-to-energy facilities at new sites. The total cost of this initiative remains undisclosed by the BBMP.
