Georgia’s Largest Opposition Party Challenges “Foreign Agents” Law

The United National Movement (UNM) in Georgia is taking legal action against the controversial law on “foreign agents.” The law, criticized by President Salome Zurabishvili and the EU, requires organizations receiving foreign funding to be labeled as such, raising concerns about democratic principles and EU aspirations.

The UNM’s lawsuit, supported by opposition lawmakers, aims to challenge the legislation that threatens civil society and media freedom. Protests against the law have erupted, with international condemnation leading to a halt in Georgia’s EU membership process.
