FG urges INGOs to follow rules of engagement

The Federal Government is calling on international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to comply with established rules of engagement in its operational areas to avoid any violations. At a forum in Abuja, Minister Atiku Bagudu emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an environment for sustainable development and well-being for all citizens. The purpose of the event was to enhance coordination and collaboration between NGOs and the government to address bureaucratic challenges and align efforts with national priorities.

Director Lynn Van Beek of the Nigeria INGO Forum also stressed the need for cooperation with the government to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles hindering the smooth operation of humanitarian programs. Despite challenges such as regulatory environment changes and resource constraints, NGOs have made significant contributions to national development through critical services like health, education, and livelihood support in various sectors.

Collaborative partnerships between the government and 49 INGOs in 2022 led to the implementation of 267 projects across 169 local governments in 23 states, particularly in the North-East region. The government acknowledges the invaluable role played by NGOs in complementing its efforts and improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Nigeria.\
