The Druze community in Majdal Shams, located in the Israel-occupied Golan Heights, protested the presence of Israeli ministers at the funeral of 12 people killed in a rocket attack. The attack, linked to Lebanon’s Hezbollah group by Israel, was denied by the organization.
During the funeral, footage showed mourners expressing disapproval towards the presence of Israeli ministers, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. The protesters demanded the ministers leave, calling them criminals.
Notably, Environment Protection Minister Idit Silman, Economy Minister Nir Barkat, and Energy Minister Eli Cohen faced similar backlash during the funeral. The Druze Authorities Forum had previously requested Israel government ministers not attend the funeral in a bid to maintain a quiet, religious service.
With tensions rising between Israel and Hezbollah, fears of a full-blown war have heightened, exacerbated by ongoing cross-border attacks. The situation, set against the backdrop of Israel’s recent conflict in Gaza resulting in casualties, remains a cause for concern.
