Coalition continues protest as CISLAC and APC chief issue warning

A coalition of human rights activists and organisations, Network of Abuja Left Groups, has set forth 12 demands that the federal government must meet to prevent the August 1 nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest. The demands include the reversal of fuel price and electricity tariff, equal salary for political office holders and Nigerian workers, implementation of a minimum living wage, total reversal of school fees increment, funding for public education, fixing of public refineries, and the release of all #EndSARS protesters in detention.

The coalition emphasized the need for a progressive taxation system, where the wealthy pay their fair share. They are determined to proceed with the protest despite warnings. Joining the conversation, CISLAC and APC Chief, Mr Gbenga Hashim, stressed the importance of peaceful protests as a constitutional right, urging the government to address economic challenges with sincerity.

CISLAC also called for a clear timeframe to address citizens’ grievances and highlighted critical issues like inflation, unemployment, corruption, and insecurity. They underscored the importance of restoring trust in institutions and safeguarding protesters’ rights.
