Blinken talks with Israeli president on resolving Lebanon issue

Recent tensions between Israel and Lebanon following a deadly rocket strike on the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights prompted U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Israeli President Isaac Herzog to engage in phone discussions.

Blinken stressed the need to prevent further escalation and work towards a diplomatic resolution for both sides, emphasizing the U.S.’ commitment to Israel’s defense against armed groups and efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

Israel is deliberating its response to the rocket attack, attributing it to Hezbollah despite their denial. The U.S. and France are advocating for a negotiated agreement between Hezbollah and Israel to prevent the conflict from spiraling into a wider regional crisis.
