Beirut airport cancels flights amid fears of Israeli attack

Heightened tensions lead to flight cancellations at Beirut airport

Lebanon’s Middle East Airlines (MEA) and other carriers have cancelled or delayed flights at Beirut airport due to escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Lufthansa has suspended routes to and from Beirut as a precautionary measure.

Concerns arose after a rocket attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights killed 12 children. Israel has authorized a military response, adding to fears of a full-scale war with Hezbollah. The armed group denies involvement, prompting increased military exchanges between the two sides.

Flight disruptions are causing chaos at the airport, with Turkish Airlines, SunExpress, and other carriers cancelling flights. MEA cited insurance risks and technical issues as reasons for delays.

The conflict has also affected shipping and other transportation in the region. Lufthansa had previously suspended night-time flights to Beirut due to regional instability. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to exchange fire.
