ANCWL: ANC must rectify Mpumalanga/North West exco

The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) is pushing for the inclusion of women in the North West and Mpumalanga provincial executives within the ANC. The league, led by secretary-general Nokuthula Nqaba, is actively engaging with Luthuli House to address the lack of female representation in these key positions.

Despite the ANC’s 50/50 policy on gender parity, the league has faced challenges in ensuring women are adequately represented. For example, in Mpumalanga, Mandla Msibi was appointed as premier over a sitting female premier, contrary to party guidelines.

The league is also advocating for a 60/40 representation of women, including the position of speaker, in male-dominated executive councils. Nqaba emphasized the importance of coalition partners adhering to gender representation in government, highlighting the league’s efforts in influencing the process through various platforms.

While facing challenges, the ANC has shown willingness to respect the 50/50 approach, giving hope to the ANC Women’s League in their pursuit of gender equality in leadership positions.
