The Accessible Buildings Award for Persons with Disabilities

The Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has announced the launch of the second round of the Accessible Buildings Award for Persons with Disabilities for 2024. This annual award recognizes the most accessible buildings in the Kingdom of Jordan, focusing on features such as ramps, elevators, and accessible information formats.

The award aims to promote the full exercise of rights and freedoms by persons with disabilities, ensuring unimpeded access to government and private buildings and facilities. It also emphasizes the importance of an obstacle-free work environment, free from physical and behavioral barriers.

This year’s award includes three levels – gold, silver, and bronze, based on criteria set by the Council and aligned with the Building Requirements Code for Persons with Disabilities. An advanced level has been introduced for buildings that meet employment standards for persons with disabilities, highlighting the importance of equal job opportunities.

Institutions can choose their level of participation by submitting buildings for the standard award or advanced levels that also fulfill employment requirements. The Accessible Buildings Award plays a crucial role in creating inclusive and accessible environments for all individuals.
