Gunfire continued to ring out on Sunday in the volatile district bordering Afghanistan, despite authorities claiming to have brokered a ceasefire between two feuding tribes in Kurram. The five-day conflict has resulted in at least 36 deaths, according to Mir Hassan Jan, the medical superintendent of the Kurram District Headquarters Hospital. Hostilities between Boshehra and Maleekhel tribes erupted over a land dispute last week, leading both sides to use heavy weapons against each other.
Concerns have been raised by Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen, a progressive Shia party in Pakistan, about the situation in Parachenar city. They stated that Takfiris are targeting Shiites with the assistance of Pakistani Taliban terrorists. Demonstrations have taken place in Parachinar and Islamabad by various religious and political parties, urging the government to intervene for an immediate ceasefire.
