Tragedy struck Nepal as a small plane skidded off the runway at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, resulting in the death of 18 individuals. The aircraft, carrying crew members and technicians for maintenance at Pokhara airport, crashed shortly after takeoff. This incident once again highlighted the poor air safety record in Nepal, a nation heavily reliant on air connectivity due to limited road infrastructure.
Nepal’s Prime Minister visited the crash site, urging patience as an investigation was launched to determine the cause of the crash. Television footage captured the horrific scene, with the lone survivor receiving treatment in the hospital. The airport was temporarily closed but resumed operations after a few hours.
As the nation mourns this tragic event, it serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced in the skies. The loss of lives in aviation accidents underscores the importance of stringent safety measures to prevent such calamities from reoccurring.
