Tragic Impact of Israel’s Genocidal War on Palestinian Education
Recent statistics reveal the devastating toll of Israel’s ongoing war on Palestinian education in the Gaza Strip. Since the conflict began on October 7, approximately 10,000 Palestinian students and 400 teachers have lost their lives. The Palestinian Ministry of Education highlighted the destruction caused by Israel’s targeting of schools, stating that over 76% of educational institutions in Gaza require reconstruction or rehabilitation to function.
UN experts have expressed grave concerns over Israel’s deliberate attacks on schools, universities, and students, citing a systematic destruction of the Palestinian education system. Palestinian Minister of Education, Amjad Barham, revealed that 39,000 high school students in Gaza were unable to take exams due to the war. The Israeli regime has demolished 117 schools and universities, leaving over 107 scientists and academics dead.
Amidst the staggering death toll, with at least 39,363 Palestinians killed and over 90,923 injured, the Government Media Office in Gaza reported the heartbreaking loss of 16,000 children. Thousands more are feared dead or missing. The ongoing conflict continues to wreak havoc on Palestinian education and society.
