The deputy director of SIPA, Zoran Galić, has been evading authorities since July 9, with state institutions treating his absence as sick leave rather than suspension. Despite being in neighboring Croatia, no international warrant has been issued for his arrest by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Galić, who received advance notice of an impending operation, began sick leave before fleeing. This enables him to continue receiving his monthly salary even while on the run, with no end in sight until a new director is elected in the fall.
Having crossed the border into Croatia, Galić is exploiting his Croatian citizenship to avoid extradition to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he faces charges related to organized crime. His escape has raised concerns, especially as he had ties to the HDZ political party.
The lack of reaction from political leaders following Galić’s escape indicates possible connections to influential figures. Despite this, the case underscores the need for accountability and transparency within law enforcement agencies.
