S. Sudan gets US.6m AfDB agriculture funding

The African Development Bank Invests $42.6 Million in South Sudan’s Agriculture Sector

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced a new funding of $42.6 million for South Sudan’s Phase One Climate Resilient Agri-food System Transformation Program. This investment aims to increase agricultural productivity, food security, and build resilience in the country.

Finance and Planning Minister Marial Dongrin Ater expressed his gratitude for the partnership with AfDB and the support provided for the agriculture sector in South Sudan. The project, initiated during the Feed Africa Dakar Summit, is a significant step towards achieving food security in the country.

AfDB Country Manager Themba Bhebhe emphasized the importance of the project in light of the current global crises and highlighted the commitment to investing in the country’s development. The additional financing of $42.6 million brings the total investment in South Sudan’s agriculture sector to $220 million.

FAO Country Representative Meschack Malo praised the project for its potential to increase food production and improve the seed system in South Sudan. With this new funding, the country is expected to see a significant boost in agricultural resilience and productivity.
